Short video answers to common therapy questions.
What's the first appointment like?
In the first appointment we’ll get to know each other to see if I’m a good fit for what you need. No pressure. No commitments.
Is counseling really private?
Counseling is absolutely private and confidential! No one will know anything our work together without your permission.
How will I pay for counseling?
I accept most major insurances (Blue Cross, Aetna, United Healthcare, and several more). I also offer reasonable payment plans if that’s needed. I don’t want finances to be an obstacle to you getting the help you need.
How long will it be before I feel better?
I confess this is a difficult question to answer. Research shows some people experience some relief after the first session because they finally had a chance to let out some of the things that have been weighing them down. We focus on manageable, incremental changes that build over time to create lasting relief. That doesn’t mean you’ll need to see someone for the rest of your life. You’ll only get the help you need, no more and no less.
Can I meet by video?
I offer in person sessions at my office in Flowood, MS, as well as video appointments to anyone in the state of MS. Research shows that video sessions can be just as effective, and they offer flexibility for hectic lives.
What if we're not a good fit?
The most important aspect of counseling that indicates a chance for progress is the fit between the client and counselor. Sometimes I’m exactly the right one for a person. Sometimes I’m not their cup of tea. Either option is 100% ok! You’re in charge. You can choose to continue or discontinue our work together at any time for any reason. You can even ghost me if you want to!
What is CBT?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (or CBT for short) is a well established, evidence based type of therapy that can be especially helpful for people experiencing anxiety and stress. The basic idea is that how we think leads to how we feel and react to situations in life. Knowing some basics concepts of neuroscience (how the brain works) can also help you feel more aware of what you’re experiencing. More importantly, it can help you better understand how to help find relief from the anxiety and stress that’s been weighing you down.
